The Process

Engagement meeting

At this initial meeting Mal will come to your home to discuss your project. We have found over the years that meeting in your home is best as you can point out what you do and don’t like; also Mal can get a feel for your sense of style.

During the meeting Mal will assess the size and level of complexity of your project then provide you with his fee. If you decide to engage Mal for his services the initial appointment fee of $200 will be deducted from the Design fee.

Concept Design

Every client and project is unique – so therefore every design that Mal produces is bespoke. Whether it is a Kitchen, bathroom, laundry or even wardrobe and furniture, Mal will personally Design each one.

The information Mal has collected from you from at the initial meeting will assist him with his Design concept. He ensures that all your needs and wants are met and will often suggest a better lay-out of your area to best utilise space.

Generally this stage takes Mal two to three weeks – as great Design takes time. Once these plans are completed Mal will meet with you again to present. At this meeting you will discuss the layout, Mal’s thoughts on colours and materials for your project.

You are given the opportunity to sleep on the concept and discuss any changes that you wish to make. Mal keeps “Drawing” until you are satisfied with the Design. When you have agreed to the concept plans Mal then sends these plans to his manufactures for pricing, which can take up-to two weeks. Upon Mal receiving the quotes he will meet with you again to discuss further. Once you have chosen to accept a quote the project then moves into Production stage.

Design Production Plans

The concept drawings are now turned into production plans. These have exact measurements, products and materials clearly defined; these are then sent to Mal’s manufacturer to begin the project, once your deposit has been paid.

Mal will provide four copies of the production plans, one for yourself, one for your builder, one for the manufacturer and one for Mal’s records.

Readiness

Mal will liaise with your Architect and Builder to co-ordinate the installation of your project. If you require, we are able to recommend, Architects, Builders, Interior Designers, Lighting and Audio Designers.

Production

This is the fun part, where we see your project comes to life!

As Mal’s Designs are intricate and often pushes the boundaries, we need to ensure our manufacturers are of the highest calibre and are the best in the field of cabinet/furniture making. This is why we only allow Mal’s designs to be produced by our preferred companies.

Mal liaises with the manufacturer and yourself to an agreed completion date. However the product is normally ready within 8 weeks from your deposit being paid.

This is when you will need to have your appliances as they are required to be delivered to the manufacturer for installation in the factory – all except the fridge. When the project is completed it is assembled in the factory where you and Mal will inspect it together. You will be required to sign off that you are satisfied with the product.

Installation

When an agreed installation date is established; Mal will then co-ordinate with the manufacturer to arrange delivery and install. When the cabinetry is installed Mal will arrange for the template of bench tops and glass.

To assist you with what you will need to organise during this process, we have developed a checklist which we will provide at the beginning of the production.

Kitchen Design of the year 2009 Australia.

What client say's

Mal Corboy came to us highly recommended by the supplier of our ‘Gaggenau’ kitchen appliances.  Our architect had designed us a contemporary home however our kitchen plan was a basic u-shape to allow us to have maximum window space to take advantage of our views, and a walk-through to a scullery area. This meant we had some constrictions but wanted to turn what we had into something special. We were keen to have glass fronts on our cupboards and drawers and ideally to match the colour of the gaggenau stove. We also wanted the kitchen to complement and not detract from our lovely coastal views but were open to "pushing the boundaries" Mal exceeded our expectations and gave us a sleek modern kitchen with colour matched deco-glazed fronts complemented by a minimalistic free-formed corian bench counter which came with the "piece de resistance", L.E.D lighting set into the perimeter of the counter top.  We and our architect enjoyed working with Mal and found him innovative as well as practical and have ended up with a kitchen that looks superb, works well and much praised by visitors to our home as we can now enjoy entertaining.
